Behind the Chair With Me isn’t about watching a perfectly prepared demonstration model.

You are stepping into my normal working environment at Hair Club Group in London

After more than two decades as a hairdresser, more than 15 years as a salon owner and years of observing other professionals behind the chair, I have accumulated knowledge that goes far beyond one technique.

And now I want to share it.

Not because my way is the only way.

But because perhaps something I have learned through my own successes, mistakes and challenges can make your journey a little less painful than mine.

I came from a simple family in Brazil, and when I started working, my dream wasn’t to build a big career or become a businesswoman.

I just wanted to work.

I wanted to earn enough money to have a home, put food on the table and create a secure life for myself.

Hairdressing gave me so much more than I ever imagined.

I had to learn a lot by doing.

I made mistakes. I had difficult days. I had to learn how to communicate with clients, how to protect their hair, how to price my work, how to say no, how to correct problems and how to run a business while still standing behind the chair.

Some lessons came from education.

Many came from experience.

And some of the most valuable things I learned simply came from watching other hairdressers work.

Over those years, many talented hairdressers have worked alongside me — and without even realising it, I was constantly learning from them too.

I watched different ways of cutting, colouring, styling and communicating with clients.

Every hairdresser has something different to offer.

That is one of the beautiful things about our industry: we never stop learning from each other.

Today, I am also a qualified hairdressing teacher where I can give you a UK hairdressing certificate in one of my coaching courses.

I have accumulated knowledge that goes far beyond one technique

That is why I created

Why do we learn by watching?

Hairdressing is visual.

You can read about sectioning. You can watch a perfectly edited tutorial. You can learn a formula or memorise the steps of a technique.

But being next to a hairdresser while they work with a real client is completely different.

You see the little things.

How do I look at the hair before I touch it?

What questions do I ask during the consultation?

Why do I decide to use one technique instead of another?

Why might I change my original plan halfway through a service?

How do I blend hair extensions so they become part of the client’s natural hair?

How do I explain to a client that what she wants may not be the safest choice for her hair?

And what happens when something doesn’t go exactly according to plan?

These are the moments that are difficult to teach from a textbook.

Sometimes you need to see them happen.

Being a good hairdresser isn’t only about being good at hair.

You can be technically talented and still struggle.

You also need to understand people.

You need confidence.

You need boundaries.

You need to manage expectations.

You need to understand your value.

You need to manage your time and your money.

And if you want to build your own business, eventually you need to understand the business behind the chair too.

I’ve experienced all of it.

I am still a working hairdresser. I still have clients. I still solve problems. I still run my salon. I still deal with bookings, products, stock, content, education, expenses and the hundreds of little decisions that come with owning a business.

Not only the beautiful Instagram result.

There are things that took me years to understand.

Things I wish somebody had explained to me when I was younger.

I can’t give you my 20+ years of experience in eight hours.

But perhaps I can show you something in those eight hours that saves you months — or even years — of figuring it out alone.
